"Allies of the Night" is the eighth book in "The Saga of Darren Shan" series. In this book:
Darren Shan, along with Mr. Crepsley and Harkat Mulds (another vampire), return to Darren's hometown. There, they encounter suspicious murders likely committed by the evil vampires (Vampaneze).
In this city, Darren is surprised to discover that Debra, Mr. Crepsley's former love, is the principal of a night school that Darren is forced to enroll in. Darren also reunites with Steve Leonard, his childhood friend who has now become the leader of the Vampaneze.
The book progresses with complex plots and betrayals, and Darren realizes that some people he thought were his allies might actually be his enemies. The book ends with a bloody battle and a major surprise that puts the fate of Darren and his friends in jeopardy.
This book increases the tension of the story and sets the stage for the dramatic events of the subsequent books.
