Let Us Compare Mythologies

Let Us Compare Mythologies is Leonard Cohen's first published poetry collection, released in 1956 when he was just 21 years old. The book marked the beginning of his literary career and introduced many of the themes that would later define his poetry, novels, and songs. Through lyrical and thought-provoking poems, Cohen explores love, faith, mythology, identity, war, loneliness, and mortality, blending personal emotions with biblical and classical references. Influenced by both Jewish tradition and Western literature, the collection reflects a young poet searching for meaning while comparing the myths, beliefs, and experiences that shape human life. Although more experimental than his later works, Let Us Compare Mythologies offers a fascinating glimpse into the early development of one of the most influential literary and musical voices of the twentieth century.
